coming home

I will be coming home the 9th to the 19th. Can't wait to see all of you. Dustin, unfortunately will be staying on the boat.

I guess I will catch you all up a little. We are currently in Kiato, Greece. On Sunday we sail for Thessaloniki, Greece where I will leave the boat. We will pick up a DTS team there. The boat will then go to Limnos Greece for 3 days then sail to Istanbul Turkey, where I will remeet it. From there we sail to Bulgaria and drop the DTS off and a Mercy Team joins us. I am so excited for this. We will sail to Ukraine where we will be doing medical outreaches.

These past few weeks in Greece we worked on the boat a little. We went to Athens for 4 days to help and live at a Drug Rehab Center. It was an awesome experience. One of the guys there (he's been there for 2 years) will be joining the boat as crew in 4 months. It was a great experience. We also helped with the ministries that they have going there (other than the drug rehab program) We handed out food and tea in a park, we helped with evening church services for drug addicts, prostitutes, and the homeless. 5 of them got saved. It was awesome.

The other thing the boat did was we all got certified. Most of the crew now has their Day Skipper which means I can be the captain on a boat less than 30 feet, only sail during the day and I have to stay within 9 miles of land. Dustin and 2 other guys flew to England for 2 weeks and got their Coastal Skipper. They can sail bigger boats further and during the night. He is finally back. He came back on the 31 and I leave on the 9. Oh boy.

Love you all

Hey everybody,

Well, I will try and catch you all up on some things. We spend the end of December and all of January in Italy. Most of the time in Catania, Sicily. My family came to visit for a week. It was awesome. We flew to Rome and met them there. From there we travelled to Naples (Napoli), and then we took a 10 hour train ride to Catania and spent the last three days touring the boat and spending time together. It was a great vacation.

We worked with several different churches in Catania. We thought we would be helping the churches with their outreaches, but we learned that that churches there are SO divided. They all hate each other even though they all grew up together and attended the same youth group. Instead we worked at opening the hearts of the pastors at the churches. They did actually start to show some improvements and we hope that God will continue to work in them. The Discipleship Training School (DTS) that was onboard (they actually left just a couple hours ago) did some work with the prostitutes. They handed out a lot of Italian Bibles. It was great. We also had many youth groups come to the boat.

One of the most amazing things was that we were WAY over our food budget and we needed more groceries. That night a guy brought 36 whole chickens. One other night we were out of bread. It takes about 4 loaves to feed 40 people for breakfast. That night, a guy who owns a bakery showed up...with the bread and pasteries that he hadn't sold that day. He continued to show up every day with his leftover bread. Occasionally he made us special treats (he always told us it was leftover but we knew it wasn't) like a pizza and some cannolies. We got so much food from the churches. It was overwhelming. God is just amazing.

We are currently in Kiato, Greece. We will be leaving the 25 for Corinth, Greece. Dustin and I are hoping to visit Athens at some point. We aren't sure yet what God has for us to do here so we have  been doing boat maintenance. We will have to see.

Pirates

So, I thought I would share our experience with you from midnight last night. Dustin, I, and Ben (another guy from the ship...obviously) were on watch. (We arrived in Almerimar, Spain at 330 this morning) Our radar showed a fast moving boat approaching from behind. Dustin went out to look and couldn't see anything. The boat kept coming closer on the radar. He went out again and couldn't see anything. Ben and I went out, we couldn't see or hear anything. By this time the radar was flashing and beeping "Collision". Dustin went out again. He came running back saying "guys, I think i saw something in the fog." I ran for the captain and they grabbed the spotlight and scanned the water. 10 yards off the starboard (right) side of the boat was a black Kodiak with 8 guys dressed in scuba gear..the works. Our spotlight suprised them so much the froze, started yelling at each other and sped off. They circled us for awhile and finally slowly left. I was terryfied. We kept watch on the radar then and occasionly the guys would do rounds around the deck with the spotlights. The one guy carried a 3 foot metal pole on his shoulder. (Anything is better than nothing :) ) We did make it safely to port. We thank God for Dustin's intuition and their smartness to grab a big spotlight. It was scary and at times it was hard to remember that God was in control but obviously he was, cuz that shouldn't have worked.

so I realized that it has been a long time since I've updated. I worked as a nurse at a retirement home until a month and a half ago. Currently Dustin and I are living a sailing yacht. We are currently in England and will be sailing to the Mediterranean on Monday. We are working with YWAM. We work with local churches, youth groups and the general public. We are also used as a sail training vessel, so there are Discipleship Training Schools and Schools of the Bible on board, usually just for the lecture phase or just the outreach phase of the schools. Dustin and I work with a crew of 15 to sail the boat. I am also the ship nurse. We are having a blast. If anyone wants to receive our newsletter just e-mail me at iluffu247@yahoo.com.
